India enjoyed its most triumphant day at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Saturday, pulling off a spectacular 16-medal haul to surge to fourth place in the overall standings. Powered by a record-breaking performance in the boxing ring, the Indian contingent brought its total tally to 39 medals (13 Gold, 17 Silver, and 9 Bronze), with additional podium finishes across para-athletics, track and field, and judo.

Historic Dominance: Indian Boxers Deliver 10 Medals from 10 Finals

Indian pugilists produced an unprecedented masterclass in the ring, converting all 10 semifinal berths into podium finishes to claim seven gold and three silver medals.

India’s momentum continued outside the ring with strong performances across track, field, and mat events:

  • 1-2 Podium Sweep in Para-Athletics: Soman Rana achieved a season-best throw of 13.40m to win Gold in the Men’s F57 Shot Put, edging out teammate Shubham Juyal, who took Silver with a season-best 13.28m.

  • Double Medal in Men’s Triple Jump: Praveen Chithravel secured Silver with a leap of 16.58m, while teammate Selva Prabhu Thirumaran claimed Bronze with 16.52m behind Jamaica’s Jordan Scott (16.72m).

  • Distance Running Success: Gulveer Singh clinched a thrilling Bronze in the Men’s 5,000m (13:24.95), holding off Kenya’s Cornelius Kemboi by a mere 0.04 seconds.

  • Judo Triumph: Unnati Sharma put on a dominant display in the Women’s -63kg category, defeating South Africa’s Skye Knoester by Ippon in just 67 seconds to take Bronze.

Valiant Efforts and Near Misses

Despite missing out on the podium, several Indian athletes turned in commendable performances:

  • Judo & Track: Harsh Tokas reached the bronze-medal match in the Men’s -81kg category after a repechage win, while Priyanka Goswami narrowly missed a podium finish with a 4th-place effort in the Women’s 10,000m Race Walk.

  • Relay Final: The revised mixed 4x400m relay team (Vishal T.K., Rashdeep Kaur, Ansa Babu, and Santhosh Kumar Tamilarasan) finished 6th in the final with a time of 3:20.32.

  • Campaign Exits: Indian athletes ended their runs in track cycling (Sprint qualification and Scratch race) and lawn bowls (Men’s Pairs and Women’s Singles).

With the Games concluding on Sunday, India enters the final day looking to add to its 39-medal total. All eyes turn to the velodrome for track cycling and the judo mats, where India’s final medal prospects will aim to close out the Glasgow campaign on a high note
