INDIA GLOBAL PLAYER IN SPACE
Two years after the Centre opened the space sector for private players, a rocket developed by a four-year-old startup, Skyroot Aerospace, has been successfully launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) at Sriharikota. The flight of Vikram-S, named after the father of the country’s space programme Vikram Sarabhai, marks the completion of Mission Prarambh (the beginning). It has three payloads — two owned by domestic customers and one by a foreign client. This includes ‘Fun-Sat’, a 2.5-kg payload belonging to Chennai-based aerospace startup Spacekidz that has been developed by students from India, the US, Singapore and Indonesia.
The Vikram-S launch is a major milestone for India’s space sector. ISRO is helping private players find their feet by offering its facilities for testing as well as for the launch of rockets and satellites. Vikram is a series of modular space launch vehicles especially designed for the small satellite market. Hyderabad-headquartered Skyroot has ambitiously declared that launching satellites into space will soon become as easy as booking a cab. Another private company, Chennai-based Agnikul Cosmos, is planning to test-fly its rocket before the year-end. This is good progress for India’s space programme, which had made rapid strides.
The PM had inaugurated the headquarters of the Ahmedabad-based Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), the country's space regulator. It is an autonomous, single-window nodal agency for the promotion, encouragement and regulation of space activities of government and private entities; it also facilitates the use of ISRO facilities by private operators.
The onus is on IN-SPACe to ensure safety, efficiency and affordability of space vehicles. The time is ripe for India to unveil its much-awaited new space policy, which promises to facilitate better coordination between government entities, space industries, startups and institutions. Sustained focus on research and development, coupled with adequate funding, can pave the way for India becoming a global player in the space sector.
EXTRNAL SECURITY
Lt General Asim Munir will work to re-establish army's pre-eminence in Pakistan
The new chief was heading the ISI when the Pulwama bombing took place in February 2019.As head of Pakistan’s most “powerful” institution, Munir’s first task will likely be to unite the Army behind his leadership, and cement the cracks between the pro- and anti-Imran Khan factions within.
If Imran Khan is still bent on pressing his demand for a quick election, Munir may be compelled, to mediate between the former PM and the Sharif government to resolve the political standoff.
Also expected are demands for investigating Bajwa after recent disclosures about the sudden increase in the family riches. The Army has never allowed such investigations when similar allegations have been levelled against its own in the past, and Munir is not likely to break from that practice. Munir would be the first “mullah general” to become chief.
Rather than trying to improve relations with Pakistan, India should focus on improving relations with others at the Global stage to take its rightful place at global level.

750 million. Bharat Net has reduced the urban-rural gap and supplemented
broadband connections; in 2014, India had around 60 million broadband
connections, whereas in 2022, the number has increased to 810 million.

e-Marketplace (GeM) on August 9, 2016. GeM has the potential to benefit more
than 8.54 lakh registered cooperatives and their 27 Crore members. It is
transparent and efficient; it helps in speedy procurement. GeM has replaced the
lengthy procurement process and made the companies/departments efficient.
Numerous other technological interventions
are improving and making citizens’ life easy. Technology should not just be
accessible to a niche segment; it should be accessible to the masses. India is

The failure to collect HUMINT in the intelligence
gathering process must be urgently addressed. While the RAW , IB, Indian Army
are foremost practitioners of HUMINT, the skills must be passed on to IN and
ICG.

Intelligence Failures must be studied regularly
so as not to commit the same mistakes again.
·
We need intelligence about smugglers, criminals
involved in smuggling of arms, ammunition, narcotics, fake currency ,illegal
migrants etc.
·
We need to create intelligence folders for all
coastal districts containing intelligence about suspects, vulnerable areas on
the coast line. intelligence about sea wing of various terror organizations
must be updated .Gaps, if any, must be removed.
·
When and where will the next terror attack take
place on the coast is question that needs to be answered.
·
Sabotage should not been ruled out, in most accidents of naval vessels Sabotage,
subversion must be guarded against.

With the drug menace only increasing in the metro
cities on the coast, the NCB has to get
its act together.

NTRO has tremendous potential and it should be

Private sector participation in intelligence
collection, especially for own security and counter intelligence is required.

all dangers to the coastline. The operational commanders of IN, ICG and Police
should understand their capabilities and limitations of each of them and task
them accordingly.

Police, Naval and ICG leadership should be able
to give clear directives to intelligence organization and must monitor it. The
success or failure of an intelligence system will depend upon the directions
given to it by senior officers of IN, ICG, CISF and police. Intelligence
collection is a formidable challenge which must be met head on.

- Instances of drones bringing drugs, arms and ammunition along the Punjab and Jammu borders from across Pakistan has more than doubled in 2022 and the BSF is looking for a foolproof solution, the force's Director General Pankaj Kumar Singh has said. While the BSF detected about 79 drone flights along the India-Pakistan international border in 2020, it increased to 109 last year and "more than doubled at 266 this year".
- Amid reports of Chinese buildup across the LAC, the Indian Army has built infrastructure for housing 450 tanks and over 22,000 troops in the Eastern Ladakh sector opposite China.Presently nine tunnels which include a "2.535 Km long Sela tunnel, which will be the highest bi-lane tunnel in the world are under construction. 11 more tunnels are also under planning."This will improve Indian Armies capability tremendously.
- Indian Army primed for indigenous modernisation: Vice Chief of Army Staff "Indian Army has recognised the importance of private sector in defence manufacturing. We want participation of the private sector," Lt Gen Raju said.

SFJ Pannun announces next round of Khalistan referendum in Australian’s Canberra
A rocket-propelled grenade attack on Punjab Police in Mohali, installing Khalistan flags at the entrance of Himachal Pradesh assembly, threats to multiple Chief Ministers and other who's who via telephonic audio messages in recent months, all have been linked to the proscribed terrorist organisation, Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) founded by Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, operating out now of Canada.
On Tuesday, Pannun announced that the next round of Khalistan referendum will be held in the Australian capital of Canberra to express support for a separate Sikh-state.
Despite the SFJ being a banned organisation in India since 2019 and Pannu being declared a terrorist, countries like Canada, the UK and the US, with a sizable Sikh diaspora, have allowed the organisation to conduct anti-India activities.
In the Canadian city of Mississauga, the Sikh diaspora was made to vote over Khalistan referendum, a major irritant in India-Canada ties, the second in the country.
Last month, Interpol had rejected a request by India to issue a Red Notice against Pannun, saying Indian authorities have not provided sufficient information on him.
"Since these handful Khalistanis (radicals) have no base in India, they are doing referendum and propagating the Khalistan agenda just to establish their base overseas in western countries by raising funds from Pakistan intelligence agency ISI and similar agencies in China.
The western countries don't see any crime to prosecute Pannun and other hardliners as they think it will be a violation of the freedom of expression.
ECONOMIC SECURITY
US Treasury removes India from its Currency Monitoring List
The US Department of Treasury withdrew India from its list of significant trading partners on its Currency Monitoring List after two years. The macroeconomic policies and monetary practices of the nations on the list is kept under watch.
A nation is regarded as a "currency manipulator" if it appears on the US Currency Monitoring List. The US government designates nations that use "unfair currency practices" to their advantage in international trade as currency manipulators.
The US Department of Treasury listed the seven economies that are now under observation as China, Japan, Korea, Germany, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan in its biannual report to Congress.
This (the removal from US’ Currency Monitoring List) means that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) can now take robust measures to manage the exchange rates effectively, without being tagged as a currency manipulator. This is a big win from a markets standpoint and also signifies the growing role of India in global growth."
The RBI recently made decisions like buying dollars during times of surplus inflows and selling dollars during times of outflows to control currency rates amid the rupee's decline. Dollars rise can now be managed much better, which will help the country economically.
