Celebrating
Maratha Raising Day Function at Buldhana on 9th February 2025
The number
of ex-servicemen in Buldhana district is significantly lower compared to
western Maharashtra. As a result, the Maratha Regiment’s Raising Day had never
been celebrated in this district before. However, this year, the Maratha
Soldiers took the initiative to organize the event on 9th February 2025,
marking a historic first for Buldhana.
The function
was presided over by Captain Sitaram Sonawane (7 Maratha), Subedar Major
Ashok Shelke, Subedar Pradhan , and several other dignitaries.
My wife and
I had the honor of attending the event as chief guests, traveling from Pune to
be part of this special occasion.
The event
was entirely funded through crowdfunding, showcasing the collective
spirit. The celebrations began with a grand soldiers' rally, followed by
a solemn tribute where dignitaries and guests laid floral wreaths at the War
Memorial in Buldhana to honor the martyrs.
The main
program was held on the school grounds of Mahatma Phule Mandal,
beginning with a welcome song. This was followed by the felicitation
of dignitaries and families of martyrs. Several guests then addressed the
gathering, sharing their thoughts.
I also addressed the gathering. The audience
was also briefed on the current activities of the organization and its future
plans.
To conclude
the ceremony, the Maratha Spurti Song was sung, after which everyone
participated in a community lunch.
The event
was an overwhelming success, with over 500 ex-servicemen in attendance. The
attendance was from all arms and services of Indian Army.
The contributions
of JCOs and jawans from the Maratha Regiment in this region played a
crucial role in making the function a grand success.
Looking
ahead, the organization plans to commemorate five key military days at the
War Memorial each year:Vijay Diwas, Kargil Diwas, Independence
Day (15th August), Republic Day (26th January), Army Day
Celebrating
the 258th Raising Day of the Maratha Regiment in Buldhana is a
significant step toward increasing awareness about the rich history of the
regiment and instilling patriotism among the people of this region.
Kudos to
the ESMs for their commendable efforts in organizing this memorable event! Their dedication ensures that the
sacrifices of our brave martyrs are remembered with the honor and respect they
deserve.
I am also
sharing the YouTube link of the event for your reference.

Such events should be held to boost the morale and give sense of belonging to the organization. I salute those all toiled towards it's success.
