Srinagar: 30 SEPT Army today foiled an infiltration bid in Keran sector of district Kupwara and killed four heavily armed infiltrating militants.
An army spokesman said here that a group of heavily armed militants was noticed crossing the LoC in Keran sector early in the morning today. When challenged they opened fire resulting in a gun fight in which four militants were killed.
Another valiant soldier, a son of the soil, has made the supreme sacrifice of his life. Lt. Sushil Khajuria attained martyrdom while fighting the terrorists in the forests of Kupwara. The gunfight with Pakistan-sponsored and armed terrorists in a forest of the border district of Kupwara, raged for five days and has consumed nine lives, five of them being intruding militants. His colleagues in olive green paid him glowing tribute for the supreme sacrifice he made. The Governor has sent letter of condolence to the bereaved family. The martyred soldier has brought laurels to the Indian Army and he will be remembered for ever by the grateful nation as a brave and valiant son of the soil who died a hero's death.
What for did Lt. Khajuria lay down his precious life at such a young age? Evidently, he did it for defending the territorial integrity and sovereignty of his motherland. He made the supreme sacrifice so that his countrymen could live in peace and security which the militants, coming from across the border and armed in the neighbouring country, want to disrupt. He died so that his countrymen and his country live with honour and dignity.
But how do those for whom he lay down his life look at it? While our brave jawans were engaged in a deadly gunfight with the enemy at the risk of their life, the J&K Legislative Assembly was engaged in discussing why one of the ilk of militants with whom Lt. Khajuria and his men were engaged in a fierce combat in Kupwara jungles, should not be shown clemency. A private resolution tabled by an MLA, who incidentally comes from the same district where the fighting was going on, demanded clemency for a terrorist who had been involved in an attack on the Parliament and whom the law of the land has sentenced to execution. It is irony of fate that Lt. Khajuria sacrificed his life to protect people including the one who tabled the resolution for amnesty to the killer. While externally sponsored terrorists are challenging national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the State and armed forces are making the supreme sacrifice to meet the threat, the elected representatives of the people are discussing a resolution seeking clemency for one who has played a leading role in espousing anti-national adventure. It is against these elements that our army has been fighting in Kashmir. Therefore, even to admit such a resolution for business in the Assembly is inconceivable for any patriotic society, leave aside bringing it forth for a debate and consuming precious time of the legislators. It means the elected law makers are not ready to recognize the sacrifices of our armed forces, which the latter are making to help these representatives conduct their democratic business for the development of the state and its people. Our armed forces are making sacrifices to protect democratic institutions in this State. Parliament is the epitome of all democratic institutions in the country. But it is these very democratic institutions that are discredited by throwing weight on the side of the militants instead of security forces.
A patriotic political establishment would have very peacefully allowed the debate on the resolution to proceed and then the members, conscious of their responsibility and duty to the nation, should have eloquently lauded the sacrifices of our armed forces in protecting life and honour of our people. This would have crowned the members with appreciation. Instead of doing that, the members indulged in a game of levelling accusations and counter accusations against one another, in creating ruckus so as to avoid direct debate and finally helping it to lapse after disrupting the business of the house. This is how the political parties are trying to trivialize national issues of immense importance.
Dichotomy in the approach and application methodology of political leadership in the State is a dangerous phenomenon. It was dormant in the beginning but surfaced vigorously with the rise of armed insurgency in the State. Using double standards became a fashion to keep armed insurgents and their sympathisers in good humour, and also to make a show of fake allegiance to national interests at the same time. Peoples' elected representatives shall have to decide once for all whether they are with the terrorists and separatists or against them. Their clarity on this issue is in their interests and in the interests of their constituencies. Rights and privileges obtainable under democratic dispensation are not to be misused or subverted. That is negation of democratic dispensation. It is also a betrayal of the trust which people repose in them. Enough is enough and the game of hunting with the hound and running with the hare should end before it ends up in crisis of sorts. The blood of our martyrs is priceless. It cannot be spilled for factitious causes.

Well said sir !! I am of the same opinion too. After all that is happening in this country im very doubtful if people will now want to serve in the forces however good the forces may be because of the fact that the very government it seeks to protect dont care two hoots about them.
ReplyDeleteLastly it would be lovely if u could also write about what we can do as common men to improve the lot of our country.
