The Indian Army's triumph over the Chinese Army along
the Line of Actual Control (LAC) has resulted in soldiers being honored with
gallantry awards. Recent revelations of skirmishes between Indian and Chinese
troops have emerged, shedding light on the confrontations that unfolded along
the LAC. The citations for bravery medals, disclosed during an investiture
ceremony by the Army's Western Command, outlined how Indian forces responded
forcefully to hostile actions by the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA)
soldiers. The incidents described in the citations occurred between September
2021 and November 2022.
The Army's Western Command, headquartered in
Chandimandir, shared a video of the investiture ceremony on its YouTube channel
on January 13. However, the channel was taken down on Monday, and the Army has
not yet responded to requests for comments. Since the Galwan Valley skirmishes
in June 2020, the Indian Army has maintained a heightened state of combat
readiness along the 3,488 km-long LAC.
In the ongoing Eastern Ladakh border dispute since May
2020, multiple instances of confrontations between Indian and Chinese forces
along the LAC have occurred over the past three and a half years. Notably,
there was a Chinese attempt to transgress in the Tawang area of the LAC on
December 9, 2022. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reported in Parliament that
PLA troops tried to change the status quo in the Yangtse area of Tawang Sector,
but Indian troops contested the attempt firmly and resolutely.
Sources revealed that several Indian Army personnel
who responded firmly to the attempted Chinese transgression were honored with
gallantry awards at the investiture ceremony. Singh emphasized that the Indian
Army bravely prevented the PLA from transgressing into their territory during
the ensuing face-off, leading to a physical scuffle resulting in injuries on
both sides. Singh expressed confidence in the unified support of the entire
House for the soldiers' courageous efforts in protecting territorial integrity
