Down Memory Lane…
50 years back I was commissioned into seven Maratha light , One of the decorated battalions of Indian army ,as officer ,on 15 June 1975
It feels almost unreal to believe that 50 years have passed since we were commissioned as young officers into the Indian Army on 15th June 1975. On 15th June 2025, we gathered to commemorate this remarkable milestone—a golden jubilee of service, sacrifice, and lifelong bonds.
The occasion was not merely a celebration, but a heartfelt tribute to our brave friends who are no longer with us—those who stood shoulder to shoulder with us at the Indian Military Academy during those unforgettable days from 21st to 23rd June 1975. Out of our proud batch of 382 officers commissioned that day, 59 have since taken their final salute. Their memories remain deeply etched in our hearts.
This solemn yet joyous function also witnessed the release of a special book chronicling the achievements of 55 Regular officers from our course. It was a moment of pride to see the names and deeds of those who rose to the rank of Brigadier and above, the gallantry award winners who brought honour to the nation, and many other high achievers who made a mark in military and civil life.
A few glimpses of this memorable event have been captured in the attached photographs—for you to relive those golden moments and feel the warmth of the brotherhood we share.
The spirit of our batch lives on—in memories, in service, and in silent salutes to our fallen comrades.
Best wishes
Brig Hemant Mahajan
