New India’s 5G Technology And 6G Testbed By Alok Virendra Tiwari

Author holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Mumbai University. He is currently part of the Chanakya Fellowship in Social Sciences at Chanakya University, Bangalore. 8 On March 23, 2022, India launched its first 6G testbed. India’s 6G testbed is one of the first in the world. The testbed is being developed by a consortium of Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and other leading research institutions involving eight institutions led by IIT-Madras. This testbed will test and validate new technologies and research advancements for 6G. Artificial intelligence (AI) will play a very crucial role in 6G, as facilitating advanced features like autonomous communication, intelligent networks and enhanced security. 6G is likely to operate in tera hertz (THz) frequencies, which would enable the faster rate of data transmission than the 5G’s gigahertz (GHz) frequencies. The vision document has recommended the creation of 10000 crores funds in INR to facilitate the service over the coming ten years to the required industry. India now has a total of 127 global patents for 6G technology. Also, to develop new 6G based applications and services. In the future, this will surely help to ensure that ‘Bharat’ is at the forefront of 6G development. As 6G is expected to revolutionize communication with unprecedented speeds, ultra -low latency, and seamless connectivity will be able to transmit more data in less time, allowing the users with a smoother experience. The 6G vision document released by department of Telecommunications (DoT) states that while 5G technology provides a speed of 40-1100 Mbps with its full potential to hit maximum speed of 10000 Mbps; 6G will soon offer the people with ultra -low latency with speeds up to 1 tera bit per second. It is 1000 times more than the top speed of a 5G network. Therefore, opening the doors for industries yet not in one’s mindset. That means in the coming years even more exciting developments can be expected. Thus, it can be concluded that while we are still in the early stages of deploying 5G networks globally, it is very much clear that the industry has planned something out of the box. This progressive approach will not only revolutionize the way we interact but also position India as a pioneering nation in this digital era, attracting investments and driving the growth of its digital economy. It sets a precedent for other nations to follow in the pursuit of technological excellence.

Change Of Wind In Pakistan’s Sindh By NC Bipindra-FINS INDIA

With continued marginalization at the hands of the Pakistani establishment, Syed, for the

first time, called for the independence of Sindh and the establishment of ethnic Sindhudesh in

1972. These calls for freedom were also influenced by the dismemberment of Pakistan through the

creation of Bangladesh a year ago in 1971 on ethnolinguistic differentiation.

Syed, in his 1974 book “A Nation in Chains: Sindhudesh,” which provides a blueprint and his

conception of Sindhudesh, asserted that Sindh cherished a distinct language and culture, being

home to Indus Valley Civilisation, and a 5,000-year-old history “which any nation and any country

in the world would feel the greatest of pride to own and cherish.”

Apart from Syed, the other two most influential leaders shaping the Sindhi nationalist

consciousness included Ibrahim Joyo and Shaikh Ayaz, jointly referred to as the “Sufi saints of

Sindhi nationalism.”

Syed, who endured nearly 30 years of incarceration for Sindhi nationalist politics, further

gave an organizational shape to the movement by establishing Jeay Sindh Mahaz in 1972, which

riled the Pakistani state with its open calls for the liberation of Sindh and the establishment of

Sindudesh.

Given the high-handed approach of the Pakistani Army, the movement gradually

descended into an armed struggle where several outfits have taken up the cause of the Sindhudesh

establishment. Some of the prominent resistance groups include the Sindhudesh Liberation Army

(SLA), Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM), Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM), Jeay Sindh Students’

Federation (JSSF), among others.

The Pakistani state has continued to adopt systemically discriminatory policies vis-à-vis

Sindh over the years, using high-handed measures against the Sindhi nationalists along with the

enforced disappearance of hundreds of civilians by the state security services.

These discriminatory policies have led to a growing alienation among Sindhis and hence

given impetus to the nationalist struggle that the Pakistani government had claimed to subdue

earlier through widespread suppressive measures from the 1970s onwards.

A prominent Sindhi advocacy group, Worldwide Sindhi Congress, accuses the Pakistan

Army of “the practice of enforced disappearance” under which “hundreds and thousands of

Sindhis, political workers, human rights activists have disappeared” over the years.

On record, the Government of Pakistan in 2021 asserted that it gave closure to nearly 5000

cases of enforced disappearances, even as over 2000 remain unresolved. However, these claims

have been disputed by the rights groups, accusing the government of deflating the actual numbers.

The situation has been further aggravated by the fact that hundreds of unidentified bodies

have sprung up over the years across the length and breadth of the province, pointing to the

practice of extrajudicial killings at the hands of the state, as claimed by many rights groups.

A US Department of State report for 2022 has also highlighted that the Sindhi nationalists

have been subjected to enforced disappearance and extrajudicial killings, with dozens of bulletriddled and mutilated bodies recovered across the province.

A September 2023 report by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan denounced the

Pakistani government “over the human rights situation in northern Sindh, including rights

violations against vulnerable groups, precarious law and order, poor access to education and

healthcare, and other curbs on fundamental freedoms.”

2023: A Year Marked by Diplomatic Triumphs and Summits

India, positioned as a crucial link between the North and the South and a mediator between democracies and perceived autocracies, emerged as a highly esteemed partner in the global arena in the year 2023. Despite occasional disagreements on certain aspects of its foreign policy, India played a pivotal role in numerous bilateral and multilateral summit meetings throughout the year. These gatherings not only provided opportunities to fortify India's relations with major nations but also allowed it to actively contribute to multilateral forums. India's commitment to dialogue and diplomacy in resolving international differences resonated strongly, bolstered by robust leadership, economic growth, and a heightened aspiration to play a more significant role in global governance.

The international community paid keen attention to India's voice, acknowledging its strategic autonomy that expanded diplomatic possibilities and facilitated a balanced pursuit of national interests. India's unique role as a bridge between the North and the South, as well as between democracies and autocracies, solidified its standing as a valued partner on the global stage.

One of the crowning achievements of India's diplomatic endeavors in 2023 was the successful hosting of the G20 summit during particularly challenging times. The conflict in Ukraine, primarily a matter of European security, reverberated globally, particularly affecting the Global South. Stringent sanctions imposed on Russia by the US and its allies disrupted food, fertilizer, and energy supplies. Throughout this crisis, India's G20 presidency showcased its adept handling of complex geopolitical issues, demonstrating resilience and diplomatic finesse. The determination of the international community to condemn Russia in various forums, including the UN, underscored the gravity of the situation that India navigated skillfully during its tenure as the G20 leader

Biden Visit For 26 Jan cancelled due to Khalistani terrorists Pannu: Cancellation No Big Deal

On December 19, when the Biden administration conveyed that President Biden would be unable to attend Republic Day and a potential Quad summit, some voices quickly painted the situation as a harbinger of the deteriorating India-US relationship. Assertions ranged from questioning the partnership's fragility to speculating on its impending demise, with doubts raised about New Delhi's perception of Biden as an ally. The familiar narrative of American fickleness emerged, suggesting that the US could align with Pakistan or China at the slightest provocation. The catalyst for this perceived strain was the Pannun case, involving the Khalistani terrorist threat.

The seeds of  doubt about India were planted by some Indian origin people in the US, and the American ignorance about India has been doing the rest of the job.

The question on Indian minds is, whether, the Biden White House has the appetite and the competence to rein in the anti-India lobbies and interest groups in Washington D.C., as well as those in Biden’s own administration running their agendas against India.

बायडेन यांची भारत-भेट रद्द का झाली? दोन्ही देशांत कटुता निर्माण झाली आहे का?

http://epaper.saamana.com/ArticlePage/APpage.php?edn=Mumbai&articleid=SAMANA_MUM_20231230_4_2&artwidth=317px

Sensex and Nifty 50 have reached unprecedented heights, marking an almost 8% surge in December.

The domestic market is witnessing a wave of positivity, with both key equity benchmarks consistently maintaining positive trends for the last four trading sessions. December has seen a remarkable 7% increase, building on the substantial 5% gain from the preceding month.

Five factors are identified as significant contributors to the heightened market sentiment. Firstly, hopes of a rate cut in the US have intensified as inflation cools, leading market participants to aggressively invest in stocks. Secondly, India's robust growth outlook, with Fitch Ratings anticipating resilient GDP growth of 6.5% in 2024-25 and a growth momentum expected to sustain in the coming quarters.

Thirdly, strong FPI buying has been evident, with foreign investors injecting substantial funds into the Indian financial market since November. As of December 26, FPIs have infused about ₹78,903 crore in December alone. Fourthly, the role of retail investors has become increasingly prominent, with a rising population contributing to the domestic market's resilience, countering foreign investors' selling pressure.

Lastly, there is a noticeable shift of money toward large-cap stocks. After substantial gains in mid and small-caps, investors are now opting for large-caps due to perceived valuation comfort. Analysts advise prioritizing high-quality blue-chip stocks with good earnings visibility, emphasizing the evolving dynamics of the market.

India's Rise as a Stock Market Superpower: Joining the $4 Trillion Club

In recent years, India has emerged as a formidable player in the global economy, and its stock market's remarkable growth is a testament to its potential. Surpassing the significant milestone of a combined market value of $4 trillion, India has firmly established itself as a stock market superpower. This essay explores the factors behind India's stock market success, the implications of joining the $4 trillion club, and the country's future prospects.

The Factors Driving India's Stock Market Success:

Robust Economic Growth: India's steady economic growth, driven by structural reforms, a burgeoning middle class, and a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem, has positioned it as an attractive investment destination. The country's GDP growth rate, demographic dividend, and expanding consumer market have boosted investor confidence.

Policy Reforms and Investor-Friendly Environment: The Indian government's proactive approach in implementing policy reforms has enhanced the ease of doing business and investor sentiment. Initiatives such as the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), and the Make in India campaign have attracted both domestic and foreign investors.

Technological Advancements: India's adoption of advanced technologies, particularly in the fintech sector, has revolutionized the stock market ecosystem. Digital trading platforms, online brokerage services, and increased access to information have democratized market participation, attracting a broader investor base.

Demographic Advantage: With a young and growing population, India possesses a significant demographic advantage. This demographic dividend translates into a large consumer base, increased productivity, and a vibrant entrepreneurial culture, all of which contribute to the country's economic growth and stock market performance.

Implications of Joining the $4 Trillion Club:

Increased Global Recognition: India's ascent into the $4 trillion club places it alongside leading economies such as the United States, China, and Japan. This achievement enhances India's global standing and attracts further attention from international investors, paving the way for increased foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows.

Market Expansion and Wealth Creation: The growth of India's stock market not only benefits investors but also facilitates the expansion of businesses. Companies can raise capital for expansion and innovation, leading to job creation, increased productivity, and overall economic development. The rising stock market value contributes to wealth creation among investors, fostering a culture of investment and financial inclusion.

Strengthened Capital Markets: A robust stock market strengthens the overall financial ecosystem of a country. India's growing market capitalization enhances the depth and liquidity of its capital markets, allowing for more efficient capital allocation and encouraging businesses to access financing through equity markets. This, in turn, promotes entrepreneurship, innovation, and economic growth.

Future Prospects and Challenges:

Continued Economic Reforms: Sustaining India's stock market growth requires a continued focus on economic reforms, including further ease of doing business measures, streamlining regulatory processes, and promoting investor-friendly policies. Policy stability and predictability will instill confidence among investors and attract long-term capital.

Infrastructure Development: Adequate infrastructure development, including transportation networks, logistics, and digital connectivity, is crucial for sustained economic growth and the efficient functioning of capital markets. Investments in infrastructure will unlock new opportunities and ensure seamless market operations.

Risk Management and Investor Protection: As India's stock market expands, ensuring robust risk management mechanisms and investor protection becomes crucial. Strengthening regulatory oversight, promoting transparency, and enhancing corporate governance practices will bolster investor confidence and mitigate potential risks.

Inclusion and Financial Literacy: Encouraging financial inclusion and promoting financial literacy are essential for broadening market participation. Initiatives aimed at educating investors, particularly in rural areas, and expanding access to financial services will enable a more inclusive and resilient stock market ecosystem.

India's remarkable achievement of joining the $4 trillion club reflects its growing stature as a stock market superpower. The country's robust economic growth, policy reforms, technological advancements, and demographic advantages have propelled its stock market to new heights. India's ascent as a stock market superpower holds immense potential for wealth creation, economic development, and the overall prosperity of the nation.

'Golden day': Centre signs peace deal with Ulfa faction

The pro-talks faction of United Liberation Front of Asom (Ulfa) led by Arabinda Rajkhowa on Friday signed a memorandum of settlement with the Centre and Assam government in the presence of home minister Amit Shah, who shared that representatives of the outfit have agreed to abjure the path of violence, surrender all arms, disband the armed outfit, vacate camps housing armed cadres and join the mainstream. Stating that Friday was a "golden day for the future of Assam", Shah said his ministry, as part of PM Modi's vision to free the northeast from "extremism, violence and conflict", has been making sustained efforts to talk to all armed groups in the region with an open mind. "In the last five years, we have signed nine pacts to make peace with insurgent outfits across various northeastern states and to end inter-state border disputes. This has established peace in a large part of the northeast," he said, citing the 87% decline in violent incidents, 90% dip in fatalities and removal of AFSPA from 85% of Assam since 2014. "With the signing of the tripartite memorandum of settlement with Ulfa, peace talks with all armed groups of Assam have reached a logical conclusion," said Shah. He shared that around 750 cadres of Ulfa surrendered on Friday, taking the total surrenders in Assam so far to 8,200. Panel to monitor time-bound implemention of Ulfa peace accord:

The signing event at the home ministry's North Block office was attended by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, and a 16-member Ulfa delegation led by Rajkhowa and representatives from 13 civil society organisations. "This agreement draws the curtains on Assam's oldest armed resistance pursued by Ulfa, protects the interests of our people & paves way for spurring growth in the region," Sarma posted on X. The Centre and Assam government, as part of the pact, will announce development projects worth Rs 1.5 lakh crore in the state

Do you think that by enabling terrorists to contest elections, Pakistan is openly legitimizing the ideologies that can spawn radicalization?

yes

Enabling terrorists or their affiliated groups to contest elections can indeed have the potential to legitimize ideologies that can spawn radicalization

. When a terror organization is allowed to participate in the political process, it can provide a platform for their extremist ideologies and narratives to gain visibility and influence. This can create a dangerous precedent and send a message that such ideologies are acceptable or have a place in mainstream politics.

Legitimizing the ideologies that underpin radicalization can have several negative consequences. It may attract individuals who are sympathetic to or share those ideologies, leading to their increased radicalization and potential recruitment into extremist groups. It can also contribute to the normalization of extremist viewpoints within society, which can further polarize communities and undermine social cohesion.

Moreover, allowing terrorists or their front organizations to contest elections can undermine the credibility and integrity of the democratic process itself. It may erode public trust in the political system and institutions, as voters may question the legitimacy of an electoral process that includes those associated with violence and terrorism.

It is important to note that participation in elections should generally be based on adherence to democratic principles, respect for the rule of law, and a commitment to non-violence. Inclusion in the political process should be contingent upon meeting these fundamental criteria to ensure that the democratic system remains robust and representative.

However, it is crucial to recognize that each country faces unique challenges and dynamics, and the decisions regarding the participation of certain groups in elections are complex and context-specific. Balancing the principles of democracy and security can be a delicate task, requiring thoughtful consideration and comprehensive strategies.

Efforts to counter radicalization and extremism should go hand in hand with political processes. Promoting inclusive governance, addressing socioeconomic disparities, fostering dialogue, and providing alternative avenues for peaceful political participation can help counter the appeal of radical ideologies and contribute to long-term stability and security.

Do you think that in the upcoming election also, terrorists will attempt to exploit religion and religious sentiments to further their cause?

The leaders of Pakistani terror organizations assert that their goal was to bring about genuine change, claiming that Pakistani citizens had been let down by mainstream political parties.

Do you think that in the upcoming election also, terrorists will attempt to exploit religion and religious sentiments to further their cause?

Yes Pakistani let down?

Yes what issues will they fight on except religion?

Poll manifesto- past performance

Go away from terrorism-terrorism is the biggest industry

Normal economic activity?

historically, some terror organizations have indeed attempted to exploit religion and religious sentiments to further their cause, including during elections.

Terrorist groups often use religion as a tool to gain support and recruit followers, as it can provide them with a sense of identity, purpose, and a perceived moral high ground. They may exploit religious narratives, symbols, and grievances to appeal to certain segments of the population and create divisions within society. By framing their actions and political objectives in religious terms, they seek to legitimize their activities and garner support from individuals who may feel disillusioned with mainstream political parties.

To counter the exploitation of religion by terrorists, it is crucial to promote religious tolerance, interfaith dialogue, and understanding among different religious communities. Governments, civil society organizations, and religious leaders can play a significant role in fostering an environment of inclusivity, where religious differences are respected, and the voices of moderation and peaceful coexistence are amplified.

Additionally, strong and effective counterterrorism measures should be in place to prevent terrorist groups from carrying out violent acts or manipulating religious sentiments for their own gain. This includes intelligence gathering, law enforcement efforts, community engagement, and deradicalization programs.

Ultimately, it is essential to uphold the principles of democracy, rule of law, and respect for human rights, while also addressing the underlying socioeconomic and political factors that contribute to the appeal of extremist ideologies. By promoting inclusive governance, addressing grievances, and providing avenues for peaceful political participation, societies can work towards countering the influence of terrorists and creating a more stable and resilient democratic system.

Terror organization Lashkar-e-Taiba has opened a new political front ahead of the upcoming Pak general elections slated to be held on February 8, 2024

Terror organization Lashkar-e-Taiba has opened a new political front ahead of the upcoming Pak general elections slated to be held on February 8, 2024.The political entity of the LeT, Pakistan Markazi Muslim League has reportedly fielded candidates for every national and provincial assembly constituency across Pakistan.

So, what makes this election unique is that voters will have the choice to choose terror. What’s your take on this issue?

The participation of a terror organization or its political front in elections raises significant concerns and challenges for democratic processes. It is crucial for elections to provide a platform for legitimate political discourse, where voters can choose among candidates and parties that adhere to democratic principles and respect the rule of law.

When a terror organization enters the political arena, it can undermine the fundamental principles of democracy. Such groups often prioritize violence and extremist ideologies over peaceful and democratic means. Their participation may create an atmosphere of fear, intimidation, and coercion, which can significantly impact the integrity and fairness of the electoral process.

Democracy relies on the free expression of ideas, fair competition, and the ability of citizens to make informed choices. When a terror organization participates, it can manipulate these processes, exploit grievances, and use violence or the threat of violence to influence voters. This can create a distorted political landscape and hinder the establishment of a stable and inclusive democracy.

It is essential for governments, civil society organizations, and international actors to work together to address the challenges posed by the participation of terror organizations in politics. This may involve implementing strict laws and regulations to prevent the inclusion of such groups, ensuring the security and safety of voters and candidates, and promoting education and awareness about democratic values and processes.

Ultimately, democratic elections should be a means for citizens to express their will and shape their countries' future in a peaceful and inclusive manner. The presence of a terror organization in the political arena can undermine these principles and pose a threat to the democratic fabric of a nation

Potential Achievements of Biden's Cancelled Visit to India

The recent security breach at the Indian Parliament has added a layer of complexity to the already intricate India-US relationship, symbolized by President Biden's decision to postpone his visit to India. This cancellation not only affected the planned Republic Day celebrations but also cast a shadow over the scheduled Quad Summit, creating a delay that involves key leaders from Australia and Japan.

President Biden's absence prompted questions regarding the rationale behind his decision, with official statements citing pressing domestic matters such as pending bills in the US Congress and the impending State of the Union address. The delayed Quad Summit, originally set for January 27, now faces uncertainty due to the unavailability of crucial leaders.

 Strains in India-US Relations

The once-heralded India-US partnership for the 21st century is experiencing strains, notably in the context of recent tensions surrounding Khalistani issues in the United States. Allegations of an assassination plot involving a Khalistani terrorist connected to an Indian government official have heightened diplomatic complexities.

At the center of these concerns is Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a Khalistani and wanted terrorist in India who has obtained American citizenship. Operating openly from the US, Pannun has issued explicit threats against India, including political assassinations and attacks on Indian institutions. The FBI is actively investigating these allegations, engaging with Indian officials during FBI Chief Christopher Wray's recent visit to India. The discussions focused on Pannun's activities and the broader issue of Sikh separatism, with India requesting intelligence sharing from the FBI.

Security concerns stemming from Khalistani activities in the US, including attacks on the Indian Consulate in San Francisco, have strained bilateral relations. While the FBI's investigation represents a step toward addressing India's longstanding concerns, resolving these issues is crucial for fostering a meaningful partnership.

As India grapples with security challenges, the postponement of President Biden's visit highlights the intricate nature of the India-US relationship. Addressing the Khalistani threat, coupled with the security breach at the Indian Parliament, requires a collaborative effort to tackle the root causes. Meaningful cooperation between the two nations is essential to overcome current strains and establish a robust foundation for their strategic partnership. The resolution of security concerns, particularly related to Khalistani activities, will play a pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of India-US relations in the coming months.

Introduction:

Additionally, the rising stock market value contributes to wealth creation among investors, fostering a culture of investment and financial inclusion.

Inclusion and Financial Literacy: Encouraging financial inclusion and promoting financial literacy are essential for broadening market participation. Initiatives aimed at educating investors, particularly in rural areas, and expanding access to financial services will enable a more inclusive and resilient stock market ecosystem.

Conclusion:

India's remarkable achievement of joining the $4 trillion club reflects its growing stature as a stock market superpower. The country's robust economic growth, policy reforms, technological advancements, and demographic advantages have propelled its stock market to new heights. Joining the ranks of global economic powerhouses further enhances India's global recognition and attracts increased investment. However, sustaining this growth requires continued reforms, infrastructure development, risk management, and inclusive market participation. India's ascent as a stock market superpower holds immense potential for wealth creation, economic development, and the overall prosperity of the nation

Sensex and Nifty 50 have reached unprecedented heights, marking an almost 8% surge in December

Several factors contribute to this recent market surge. Robust domestic macro numbers, a decline in US inflation, which fuels hopes for rate cuts, a continuous fall in US bond yields and the dollar, and substantial foreign portfolio investor (FPI) buying have all played key roles. Notably, Nifty 50 reached a fresh record high of 21,675.75, and the Sensex touched a new peak of 72,119.85 on December 27, with Sensex closing at 72,038.43, up 0.98%, and Nifty 50 closing at 21,654.75, up 1%.

The total market capitalization of BSE-listed firms is now approaching ₹361.3 lakh crore, showcasing the strength of the current market momentum. Experts predict the trend to continue into 2024, with FPI investments expected to pour into India.

Analysts advise prioritizing high-quality blue-chip stocks with good earnings visibility, emphasizing the evolving dynamics of the market

What steps should India take to protect it's shipping from Drone attacks and missile attacks from various terrorist groups in the exclusive Economic Zone of the country?

In response to recent attacks on commercial vessels in the Arabian Sea, the Indian Navy has deployed three warships to maintain a deterrent presence. The Navy is investigating a drone strike on the Mangalore-bound cargo vessel MV Chem Pluto. The vessel, carrying crude oil, was attacked about 217 nautical miles from Porbandar . What other steps should India take to protect it's shipping from Drone attacks and missile attacks from various terrorist groups in the exclusive Economic Zone of the country?

To protect its shipping from drone attacks and missile attacks in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ), India can take several steps. Here are some measures that the country could consider implementing:

Enhanced Maritime Surveillance: Strengthening maritime surveillance capabilities is crucial to detect and track potential threats in the EEZ. India can invest in advanced radar systems, coastal surveillance networks, and aerial surveillance assets like maritime patrol aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). These assets can provide real-time situational awareness and early warning of any approaching threats.

Integrated Command and Control: Establishing an integrated command and control system can facilitate efficient coordination and response to maritime security incidents. This system would integrate information from various sensors, surveillance platforms, and intelligence agencies to enable effective decision-making and response deployment.

Anti-Drone Systems: Deploying anti-drone systems can help detect, track, and neutralize hostile drones operating in the EEZ. These systems can employ technologies like radar, electro-optical sensors, and radio frequency detection to identify and counter unauthorized drones.

Air Defense Systems: Installing air defense systems, such as surface-to-air missiles and close-in weapon systems, on naval vessels and strategic locations along the coast can provide an effective deterrent against missile attacks. These systems can intercept and destroy incoming missiles, reducing the risk to commercial vessels.

Maritime Patrol and Interception: Increasing the presence of naval assets, including warships and patrol vessels, in the EEZ can help deter and intercept potential threats. Regular patrols and coordinated operations with other maritime security agencies can enhance the overall security posture.

International Cooperation: Engaging in collaborative efforts with regional and international partners is crucial to combat maritime threats effectively. Sharing intelligence, conducting joint exercises, and cooperating in capacity-building initiatives can enhance the collective security of the region.

Cybersecurity Measures: Strengthening cybersecurity measures is essential to protect critical infrastructure and communication networks from cyber threats. Ensuring secure communication channels, implementing robust cybersecurity protocols, and conducting regular audits can help mitigate the risk of cyber attacks.

Public-Private Partnerships: Collaborating with the private sector, especially shipping companies, can help improve maritime security. Encouraging the adoption of best practices, such as enhancing onboard security measures, conducting risk assessments, and providing training to crew members, can contribute to a more secure maritime environment.

Legal Framework and International Conventions: Strengthening the legal framework related to maritime security and ensuring compliance with international conventions is vital. This includes implementing measures to counter piracy, terrorism, and other maritime crimes, as well as ratifying and adhering to relevant international agreements and protocols.

It is important to note that these measures should be part of a comprehensive and adaptive strategy that takes into account evolving threats, technological advancements, and the changing dynamics of the maritime domain. Regular reviews and updates to security protocols and capabilities are necessary to stay ahead of potential threats

#COUNTERING CHINESE MULTI DOMAIN , GREYZONE, HIGHBREED WARFARE

China-Philippines dispute grows tenser; China vows to keep up military pressure

China claims sovereignty over virtually the entire South China Sea, one of the world's most crucial waterways for shipping, putting it at odds with the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Taiwan and Brunei, who all maintain claims over islands, reefs and undersea resources in the region.

Naval exercise MILAN- 2024 to be held at Visakhapatnam, 50 countries likely to participate

The upcoming MILAN 2024, hosted in Visakhapatnam from February 19 to 27, anticipates record-breaking participation from over 50 nations and nearly 20 ships. The biennial naval exercise, initiated in 1995 by the Indian Navy, has evolved to align with India's 'Act East policy' and PM Modi's SAGAR initiative. The event features harbor activities, including seminars and exhibitions, along with sea maneuvers involving submarines, aircraft carriers, and advanced warfare operations, synchronizing with India's G20 Presidency theme, 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam'.

#HAMAS ISRAEL  WAR #LESSONS FOR INDIA

Russia has fired 7,400 missiles, 3,700 Shahed drones in war so far, Kyiv says

Russia says it only fires on military targets though Moscow has also admitted to targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Russia says it does not target civilians, despite thousands of documented civilian deaths throughout the war. Russia began launching the drones at infrastructure facilities in September 2022. They initially confused Ukraine's air defences, as they were harder for standard air defence radars to detect than missiles, which forced Kyiv to adapt.

Mass drone attack hits several Kyiv districts

Kyiv faced its sixth drone attack this month, targeting separate residential areas. Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed strikes in Solomyanskyi district, causing a fire in a block of flats and injuring two. The incident, near a maternity hospital, damaged multiple apartments. Another attack in Darnytskyi district set fire to a construction site without injuries. Serhiy Popko reported a third strike in Holosiivskyi district, damaging apartments. Air raid alerts were lifted afterward. Videos and images on social media captured the aftermath, including flames and destruction.

Kashmir Post-370, Judgement,Urgent Need for Comprehensive Strategies to Combat Drug Menace Across India- NCRB annual report

The Supreme Court’s constitution bench has upheld the 2019 GOI decision to revoke the special status granted to J&K under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution. With this judgment now behind us, all focus should be on investigating what threats continue to impede the full integration of J&K with the rest of India, and proceeding to effectively neutralise them.

SC’s seal on ending special status is a psychological plus for integration. Politics must now connect with people. But the security apparatus must remain vigilant. Many inside & outside India don’t want peace

Urgent Need for Comprehensive Strategies to Combat Drug Menace Across India- NCRB annual report

The National Crime Records Bureau's (NCRB) annual reports consistently draw attention, but a broader perspective, especially concerning drug-related issues, is crucial. It is imperative to develop comprehensive pan-India strategies to address the expanding influence of drug syndicates. Focusing solely on which state consumes more drugs than others oversimplifies the data. In 2022, Kerala topped the list with 26,619 FIRs under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, followed by Maharashtra (13,830) and Punjab (12,442). Kerala's emergence as a new drug hotspot should not provide comfort to other states; rather, it underscores the need for unified action.

The NCRB data reveals alarming trends, indicating a surge in drug production, smuggling, and consumption nationwide. In 2022, 681 individuals, including 116 women, lost their lives to drug overdose in India. Punjab recorded the highest number of such deaths at 144, followed by Rajasthan (117) and Madhya Pradesh (74). Punjab also led in the registration of cases related to drug possession for trafficking, with 7,433 cases, and recorded 5,009 FIRs for personal drug possession, up from 4,206 in 2021.

The NCRB data unequivocally demonstrates that the battle against drugs is now a nationwide challenge, and Punjab likely underreports cases. Addressing this requires coordinated inter-state plans and central assistance. While the increase in NDPS case registrations indicates proactive efforts by certain state governments, the dismal conviction rate is a significant disappointment. The proliferation of the menace is fuelled by delayed or weak chargesheets and the focus on catching peddlers instead of targeting the drug lords. Immediate and cohesive action is imperative to curb this escalating national crisis.

Human Security-India's alarming track record in industrial safety.

Accountability is a pressing concern in the aftermath of recent industrial incidents in Chennai and Maharashtra, shedding light on India's alarming track record in industrial safety. These events not only underscore the immediate need for a robust response system but also prompt critical inquiries into systemic deficiencies.

India's environment and safety laws, far from impeding economic progress, suffer from inefficacy that not only jeopardizes lives but also disrupts livelihoods. The question of accountability looms large in addressing these systemic failures.

BSF plans marine battalion, drone squadron to secure Sundarbans against infiltration, smuggling

A marine battalion comprising more than 1,100 personnel, a squadron of about 40 drones and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are part of a plan devised by the BSF to secure the strategic Sunderbans mangrove region along the India Bangladesh border against smuggling and infiltration.

The Sunderbans, the world's largest mangrove forest cover region is an archipelago of over 100 islands and a complex network of streams, rivers, tidal creeks and channels spread over an area of 9,630 sq km in India. The rest falls in Bangladesh.

It lies on the delta of the Ganga, Brahmaputra and Meghna rivers in the Bay of Bengal. "Sunderbans effective domination and security is the need of the hour, as there are inputs suggesting this area is being used for cross-border infiltration criminals.

The new battalion will have more than 1,100 trained personnel and about 40 large drones and 12-14 ATVs will be deployed. The plan will be set in motion once the proposal is approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The BSF, at present, patrols the Sunderbans area with a fleet of about 50 small and large speedboats and vessels.

BSF has also communicated its plan to the West Bengal government seeking its permission for stationing a small team of its patrol parties (personnel on foot patrol) in Forest Department 'chowkis' located in the Sunderbans.

Ensuring Maritime Security:

The recent interference by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea, disrupting shipping traffic, serves as a stark reminder of the susceptibility of global maritime trade. This disruption led to a surge in oil prices on Monday afternoon, underlining the geopolitical risks associated with shipping lanes.

Major shipping companies refrained from using the Bab el-Mandeb strait in response to the Houthi attacks over the past four days, causing repercussions worldwide.

The Significance of Maritime Trade: The majority of global merchandise trade relies heavily on shipping, constituting approximately 80% of world trade by volume, according to estimates by Unctad. For India, this dependence is even more pronounced, with shipping accounting for 95% of its merchandise trade.

Chokepoints in the Indian Ocean: While oceans cover 97% of the Earth's water bodies, a handful of straits in the Indian Ocean play a pivotal role in maritime trade. The straits of Malacca, Hormuz, and Bab el-Mandeb are crucial chokepoints through which nearly 40% of the world's oil production flows. Unfortunately, these chokepoints are susceptible to threats from various non-state actors, posing a risk to global trade.

Persistent Threat of Piracy: Political instability in regions surrounding these straits has historically given rise to piracy as a disruptive force. Somali pirates operating in the Red Sea and the Mozambique Channel have posed a significant threat, prompting the UN Security Council to adopt resolutions, albeit with limited effectiveness.

Ongoing Piracy Challenges: Despite efforts to combat piracy, the International Maritime Bureau reports a 10% increase in incidents from January to September 2023. Pirates have successfully boarded 89% of targeted vessels, with the Singapore Straits being particularly vulnerable.

South China Sea Concerns: Beyond non-state actors, potential disruptions in the South China Sea, a vital link between the western Pacific and the Indian Ocean, raise concerns. China's maritime claims in this region could impact this critical shipping route, further emphasizing the need for global attention to maritime security.

India's Role and Challenges: India actively deploys its navy to protect merchant vessels, contributing significantly to global seafaring. However, Indian seafarers often fall victim to pirate attacks. The Indian government and states should provide increased institutional support, with a focus on the National Welfare Board for Seafarers, to enhance the safety and well-being of these essential contributors to global maritime trade.

Biden Visit For 26 Jan cancelled due to Khalistani terrorists Pannu:Cancellation No Big Deal

While the Pannun issue may not significantly impact the overall strategic relationship between India and the US. The concerns raised by five Indian American Congressmen and the expressions of disapproval from Beltway observers, hinting at potential sanctions and "reputational damage," add complexity to the situation.

With competing court cases underway in New York and New Delhi, India is set to legally contest the charges. The defense will likely scrutinize and challenge various aspects of the accusations. However, the undeniable reality is that the United States finds itself defending an accused terrorist in this scenario.

ECONOMIC SECURITY

Gleaming Achievements: Surat's Latest Diamond Bourse Showcases India's Success

Step aside, Mumbai. Gujarat takes the spotlight with the recently inaugurated Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB), representing the pinnacle of India's diamond success story. Positioned as the world's largest office space, this impressive facility is managed by the non-profit SDB, exclusively established for this purpose. Serving as Surat's second trading hub, the bourse spans 35.5 acres and accommodates up to 4,500 offices.

Radiant Surat: Long recognized as a crucial player in the global diamond supply chain, the city of Gujarat has consistently processed 9 out of 10 diamonds globally. The establishment of the Surat Diamond Bourse positions India to become a global hub for all aspects of the diamond trade.

Silent Brilliance: The sheer magnitude of the Gujarat-based bourse underscores the often understated nature of the diamond business. India's leadership in the diamond industry is frequently overlooked in discussions about the country's global achievements. Over the past decades, Indian diamond-dealing communities, forming a closely-knit ecosystem of families across continents, have exerted significant influence over trading hubs, including the renowned Antwerp diamond district.

Dimming Luster, Homegrown Brilliance: Declining demand in affluent markets, including China, has led to a downturn in diamond exports.

The industry anticipates a potential shift among Indians toward diamond jewellery, potentially capturing 20% of the market. The Surat Diamond Bourse is poised to inject renewed vitality into the business, ensuring that the sparkle of India's diamond industry continues to shine brightly.

RELENT LESS- INFORMATION WARFARE AGAINST INDIA BY SECTION OF WESTERN MEDIA

A full-fledged information warfare has been launched against India by elements inimical to India. Suddenly news reports are popping up internationally about how the India has been wanting “to sort out” the Gurpatwant Singh Pannun problem. The latest media report is about a “leaked” “Ministry of External Affairs memo” speaking of cracking down on “Khalistanis”, by listing the potential targets including Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was killed in Canada in June.

The MEA has rubbished the claim by calling the memo fabricated and part of a “sustained disinformation campaign against India”, by using a media outlet “known for propagating fake narratives peddled by Pakistani intelligence”. It’s becoming increasingly clear that these attempts are escalating in order to add weight to the fiction of a “rogue Indian government” plotting to kill  Mahatma Pannun on American soil.

The narrative of India carrying out “transnational repression” is gaining currency, and has the potential to have some impact on the strategic partnership between India and the United States.

The mainstream media in the US, does not make any mention of his threats to bomb Air India, the Indian Parliament or ordering hits on Indian diplomats. Surely these supposedly credible western media outlets are not so information-challenged that their research did not throw up facts about Pannun’s call to violence when writing articles on him. Surely death threats cannot be brushed under the carpet by describing these as freedom of speech. What’s going on is an attempt to influence American policy and opinion makers. In a very insidious manner western media is trying to glorify the Khalistani movement as a struggle against India for self-determination and justice.

In fact, this seems to be a case of the ISI, with backing from the Chinese are trying to derail India-US relations and this time with some western support.

There is another dimension to this information warfare, which is working at a much subtler level by instilling doubts on American minds about India as a trusted partner against China. The buzz in US think-tanks apparently is: India cannot be trusted for it will never stand with the US when it comes to any possible military confrontation with China. To think that this is being said about India, the only country in the world that has shown the appetite to fight back the Chinese  in Galwan inflicting large number of casualties and large number of soldiers in the icy heights of the Himalayas against the PLA for over three years. Interestingly, the seeds of this doubt were planted by some Indian origin people in the US, and the American ignorance about India has been doing the rest of the job.

The question on Indian minds is, whether, or not, the Biden White House has the appetite and the competence to rein in the anti-India lobbies and interest groups in Washington D.C., as well as those in Biden’s own administration running their agendas against India.

IMF Hails Indian Economy as "Star Performer"Around 30 Pakistani terrorists suspected to be active in Rajouri-Poonch sector:

IMF Hails Indian Economy as "Star Performer"

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently released its annual report, lauding the Indian economy as a "star performer" among major economies. The IMF's recognition is a testament to India's remarkable progress and potential for sustained economic growth. The reasons behind the IMF's positive assessment are, focusing on India's large population and public infrastructure spending as key factors contributing to its stellar performance,

The burgeoning middle class within India's population has been a key driver of economic growth. As income levels rise and the middle class expands, consumption patterns evolve, leading to increased demand for goods and services across various sectors. This surge in consumption has stimulated domestic industries, generating employment and fostering entrepreneurship.

India's commitment to infrastructure development has been evident through initiatives like "Make in India," "Digital India," the Bharatmala project, and the Smart Cities Mission. These endeavors have not only created employment opportunities but have also strengthened the country's overall competitiveness and attractiveness as an investment destination.

The IMF's acknowledgement of India's public infrastructure spending underscores the positive impact it has had on the country's economic performance. The IMF's recognition serves as a validation of India's economic progress and provides a strong foundation for future endeavors.

It is essential for the Indian government to build upon these achievements, addressing challenges such as income inequality, job creation, and sustainable development. By adopting prudent economic policies, encouraging entrepreneurship, and fostering a favorable business environment, India can continue to shine as a "star performer" and become a global economic powerhouse
