COUNTERING CHINA’S WELL FUNDED AND
SUBTLY WAGED,
PROPAGANDA WAR
China
engages in a well-funded and subtly executed propaganda campaign. The New York
Times' investigation has exposed intricate Chinese influence activities
worldwide, with serious security implications for India. Central to these revelations
is a network by American millionaire Neville Roy Singham, who operates from
Shanghai and maintains close ties with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)and its
propaganda apparatus.
Singham-established
or funded non-profit organizations have channelled resources toward think
tanks, political parties, and media in various countries. What unifies these
recipients is their promotion of CCP messaging.
In the context of India, Singham's network
provided funding for a news website. These efforts are carefully orchestrated
to present a façade of impartiality.
Under
the leadership of Xi Jinping, China has significantly intensified such
endeavors, aiming to construct a positive global narrative about the country.
This involves cultivating networks of news outlets, disseminating
misinformation, and supporting seemingly innocuous public ventures.
Similar
influence campaigns are being directed at India with China's considerable
resources. The vastness of India, its complex administrative landscape, and a
multitude of differing opinions provide fertile ground. The presence of a
significant number of underemployed or poorly compensated individuals further
heightens India's susceptibility, allowing Beijing to exploit these vulnerabilities.
As such, India must exercise heightened vigilance against China's influence warfare.
Report in ‘The New
York Times’
‘The New York Times’ is now admitting that Neville Roy
Singham and his NewsClick are dangerous tools of the CPC and promoting China’s
political agenda across the world.
Much before NYT, India has long been telling the world
that News Click is a dangerous global web of Chinese propaganda. Supported by
like-minded forces, Neville Roy Singham has been furthering a dubious Chinese anti-India
agenda.
In 2021, when India’s law enforcement agencies initiated
an inquiry against News Click based on strong evidence of money laundering, the
Congress and the entire Left-Liberal ecosystem came to defend it.
It is natural for these forces to defend Neville and News
Click because national interest never matters to them. Congress Party signed an
MoU with the CPC in the year 2008 to promote Chinese interest in India and accepted
donations for the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation from the Chinese embassy.
Not just News Click many media and Fact check entities
are openly funded by Foreign regimes either directly or indirectly. Political
parties like AAP, Judiciary related foundations, and the entire NGOS do the
same.
News click ran 2 stories all day, for many days. One was
Rafael and other was Adani. Few Indian newspapers also ran huge editorials on
Rafael, in run up to 2019 elections showing the extent of Chinese influence.
Support From Press Club of India
After being called
a Chinese mouthpiece for pushing Beijing’s agenda, a Delhi-based media portal
News Click, which is financed by American tech mogul Neville Roy Singham has
found support for its nefarious actions. The Press Club of India has come out to
defend, the dubious organisation and released a statement in its favour.
They said that the
recent exposé as a “targeted campaign” .We the undersigned organisations,
express deep concern over the ongoing targeted campaign against the news web
portal News click and its founders. The recent accusations levelled by senior
members of parliament, suggesting that the portal serves as a mouthpiece for China
are both unwarranted and condemnable.
It was signed by
Umakant Lakhera who is the president of the club and Shobhna Jain, president of
the Indian Women’s Press Corps. It also contained the names of C.K. Nayak,
president of the press association along with Sujata Madhok, president of the
Delhi Units of Journalists.
