Indian Army Soldier Martyred in Encounter with Terrorists in J&K's Kishtwar

A soldier lost his life during an encounter with terrorists in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday. The White Knight Corps reported that a fierce gunfight is ongoing, and despite the best medical efforts, one of the soldiers suffered grievous injuries and succumbed.

Operation Details

Army initiated a cordon and search operation (CASO) after receiving specific intelligence regarding the presence of three to four terrorists. As the forces tightened the cordon to prevent the terrorists from escaping, the militants opened fire, resulting in the current encounter. The operation, named “Op Trashi,” has seen contact established with the terrorists, and additional troops have been deployed.

Intensified Operations Against Terrorism

In recent weeks, operations against terrorists and their supporters in Jammu and Kashmir have intensified. This surge in action follows a tragic incident on April 22, when Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists killed 26 civilians, including 25 tourists, in Pahalgam. This act of terror sparked national outrage, prompting India to launch Operation Sindoor, which involved precision strikes targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. However, military operations were paused after Pakistan requested a ceasefire at the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) level.

Ongoing Terrorist Hunts

Recently, security forces eliminated three Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists in the Tral area of south Kashmir, marking the second confrontation in 48 hours following the deaths of three Lashkar-e-Taiba militants. The deceased terrorists, all local residents, were killed during an operation in Nader Tral, assisted by drone surveillance to locate their hideouts.

Authorities have cautioned the public against sharing sensitive information that could unintentionally promote extremist propaganda. The police have urged citizens to stay clear of operation sites to ensure safety.

Current Situation

In the wake of these operations, officials reported that only seven local militants remain active, the lowest number since 1990, indicating a significant decline in terrorism-related activity in the region
